Fireplace Screen SizesFireplace screens, like fireplaces, come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Single-panel fireplace screens are easiest for determining proper size because they stand across the fireplace in a straight line.
Multi-paneled screens have a curved effect, which makes things more complicated. To determine the proper screen size for your fireplace, add 10 to 12 inches to the width of your fireplace and 3 to 5 inches to the height. This allows sufficient positioning angles, which keep the fireplace screen securely upright. Compare your dimensions to the dimensions listed on the product page or use our convenient "Shop By Width" feature, located on the left-hand side of our "Fireplace Screen & Guards" page. After clicking on your applicable range, choose your favorite style and click on it.
Both width and height are important on any fireplace screen, as you need complete coverage for maximum protection and safety. Remember, measure twice and buy once!
Door SizingSome of our fireplace screens feature doors, which come in two types: freestanding and built-in. Freestanding doors are doors built into the fireplace screen itself. The dimensions of these screens indicate the dimensions of the entire piece, rather than the dimensions of the doors alone. You will find the door dimensions listed separately on the Product Details page. Built-in fireplace screens fit directly onto the fireplace, so the door dimensions and the screen dimensions are the same.
Tips for a Safe HearthA crackling fire in your hearth does wonders to cozy up a home. But to get the most out of your fireplace and fireplace screen, make sure you are prepared to use it safely.
Of course, the fire should stay inside the hearth, but you should take steps to prevent children and pets from gaining access to the fire. Keep items that could be attractive to kids or pets away from the hearth and be sure your fireplace screen blocks the fireplace on all sides.
Be sure you have proper ventilation and a clean, clear chimney. We advise having your chimney professionally inspected and cleaned yearly. Test all smoke detectors in your home to be sure they are working properly. Also, always have a full set of tools nearby to tend your fire and clean your hearth properly.
